Chief Financial Officer
On-site | Full-Time | Strategic
Salary Range: $100,000-$110,000 based on experience
The Opportunity
Pathway, Inc., the Community Action Agency serving Lucas County, is seeking a dynamic Chief Financial Officer (CFO) who will lead the financial operations and support long-term organizational support.
The CFO serves as a key member of the executive leadership team and a trusted partner to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), providing financial leadership across a diverse portfolio of federal, state, and local funding sources. This role is responsible for ensuring strong financial stewardship, regulatory compliance, and alignment between financial strategy and program delivery.
The ideal candidate brings both technical expertise and leadership capacity, with the ability to operate at a strategic level while remaining engaged in day-to-day financial management within a lean team environment.
Financial Leadership & Strategy
- Serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO on financial planning, sustainability, and organizational growth
- Lead the development and oversight of the agency’s annual budget and long-term financial projections
- Provide financial analysis to support decision-making across programs and leadership
- Strengthen financial systems and processes to support agency-wide effectiveness and scalability
Grants & Compliance Management
- Oversee financial management of multiple funding streams, including federal, state, and local grants (e.g., CSBG, CDBG, and other public funding sources)
- Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, contracts, and reporting requirements
- Coordinate and lead annual audits and monitoring processes
- Maintain strong internal controls and risk management practices
Financial Operations
- Oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and financial reporting
- Ensure accurate, timely financial reporting for internal leadership, funders, and the Board of Directors
- Align financial data with program reporting systems to improve accuracy and consistency across the organization
- Manage cash flow and financial forecasting to ensure organizational stability
Team Leadership
- Lead and support a small finance team, fostering accountability, professional development, and continuous improvement
- Establish clear expectations and workflows to ensure efficiency and accuracy
- Promote collaboration between finance, program, and administrative staff
Board & External Engagement
- Support the CEO in engaging the Board of Directors on financial matters, including budget presentations and financial reporting
- Serve as a financial liaison during monitoring visits, audits, and funder interactions
- Build and maintain strong relationships with external partners, including auditors and public agencies
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in finance, accounting, or financial management
- Demonstrated experience in nonprofit and/or public-sector financial management, including grant-funded programs
- Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles, internal controls, and financial reporting standards
- Direct experience leading external audits and working with auditors, including preparation of schedules, documentation, and responses
- Experience managing multiple funding streams and compliance requirements (federal, state, and local funding preferred)
- Proven ability to operate effectively in a lean environment, balancing strategic leadership with hands-on financial management
- Prior experience in a Community Action Agency or similarly complex human services organization is strongly preferred
PREFERRED QUALIFICATONS
- CPA strongly preferred

WORKING CONDITIONS
ADA: Duties of this position are performed primarily in an office environment with normal office noise levels. The position requires occasional local and long-distance travel, which may involve exposure to varying weather and driving conditions. The employee may be required to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods and to occasionally lift and/or move up to thirty (30) pounds.
